Privacy and disclaimer

AnyScholar is an educational experience. The professors are AI portrayals of historical figures, grounded in their own writings. They are not the real people, and they are not endorsed by or affiliated with any person, estate, or company.

Accuracy

Lectures are written from primary sources, but the professors also improvise with AI and can be wrong. Treat what they say as a starting point for learning, not as professional or academic advice, and verify anything you rely on.

What we store

  • AnyScholar is in private preview: classes are open to invited members, who sign in with Google. For members we store your name, email address, and profile photo from Google.
  • If you sign in with Google but aren't invited yet, we don't keep that sign-in: the account is deleted right away.
  • If you join the interest list: the email address you type and the classes or subjects you pick, used only to tell you when a seat opens. No sign-in is needed for this.
  • Your progress in each lecture (stars, notebook cards, and a short recent conversation) so you can continue later.
  • The professor's notes about you, so a professor remembers you next time: what you covered, strengths and struggles, questions you left open, and a suggested next step. They're written from what happens in class.
  • An activity log of what happens on the site and in class (pages visited, the questions you ask or say, the professor's replies, choices, labs, and stars), with your IP address, used to improve the lessons and keep the service safe. Before you sign in, activity is linked to a random browser id, not to your identity.
  • Voice: when you hold the talk button, that recording is sent to our speech service to turn it into text. We keep the text, not the recording.

Who processes it

We use Google Cloud (Firebase and Firestore) to store data and Google's Gemini models for the professor's replies, voice, and speech-to-text. When switched on for some professors, Anthropic's Claude writes their replies instead. Railway hosts the site.

Your choices

You can reset a lecture from Settings and sign out at any time. To delete your account data, the professor's notes, or your interest-list entry, contact the builders via LinkedIn (linked below).
